Get to Know Geoff

BACKGROUND
Geoff grew up in Dormont a few doors away from Castle Playground. He spent his childhood playing baseball at Pop Murray and lifeguarding at Dormont Pool. After graduating from Pitt he joined the Air Force as a a computer engineer stationed at Eglin AFB, FL. After his service commitment, he transferred to the Reserve, stationed at the 911th Airlift Wing, and made his way back to Dormont. Geoff and his wife Jessica have 6 daughters currently enrolled at Dormont Elementary, Keystone Oaks Middle and High School.
VISION FOR THE FUTURE
Geoff will be an advocate for a school district where every student has access to quality education, where diversity is celebrated, and where every voice is heard. With a proven track record of community involvement and leadership, Geoff is committed to working tirelessly to create a school district that puts students first and listens to the needs of the community.
MISSION
Empowering Every Student
Keystone Oaks already provides an excellent academic environment for students in regular educational settings. We do a great job preparing students for success at 4 year colleges. We need to provide more focus and apply more resources to special education and non-regular educational opportunities. I've heard from countless parents about difficulties encountered with Individual Educational Plans (IEP). And trust me I understand, half of my children are on IEPs! Also, the district needs to make minor changes that make it easier for students to engage in opportunities at the high school level such as Parkway, dual enrollment, college credits, online courses, and work credit.
Voice of the Community
Members of the School Board should be active, involved, and visible in community activities. This is the only way the school board can have the experience and knowledge relevant to the pain points for community needs. I'm only running for school board now, because I've spent the past 12 years actively involved in many of my children's activities. I've been an active member of the PFO. I've helped build the Haunted Trail. I've sold Christmas Trees at the pool for the band. I've volunteered at career days, veterans assemblies, field day, school dances, clean up days, etc.
Jessica and I rebooted the Odyssey of the Mind program and built it into one of the strongest programs in the world, serving hundreds of students. I helped start the Keystone Oaks Youth Basketball Association which, this year, has its most teams ever - fifteen! I've been a Keystone Oaks United Soccer coach for over ten years, and now I announce the varsity girls games at Dormont Stadium.

A socially healthy developmental experience for K-12 includes sports, arts, clubs, extracurriculars, music, and volunteering. I've had experience with all of those at KO, and understand exactly what it takes to manage them properly. Most importantly, I've had the meetings and conversations with district administration and parent groups, and understand what it takes behind the scenes to empower a thriving community.
